Coat care - How do I clean properly?

In the wilderness, horses groom their coats and skin by rolling, pushing, grooming each other or even "bathing" in pools, puddles or lakes - for use as a riding horse, we groom the horse regularly to prevent dust and dirt from causing chafing through the equipment, plus grooming has the positive side effect of massaging the horse and promoting circulation.

Why is coat care useful?

- A shiny, well-groomed coat is a reflection of the horse's nutrition and state of health.
- Grooming the horse strengthens the trust & bond between human and horse
- The grooming process removes dust, dirt, sweat and dead skin scales, as well as stimulating blood circulation and skin respiration - the horse gets a soothing massage.
- All dust, dirt and sweat adhesions are removed so that the equipment does not cause chafing.
- Grooming is the daily check, so to speak: injuries or wounds can be discovered.

How to clean properly or how do we clean ?

CLEAN hooves - Scrape out hooves: Freeing from dirt and stones & checking the hoof e.g. with our KratzeKarl.
MASSAGE - Grooming with Soft Curry Comb: Coat is groomed in a circular motion to remove coarse dirt.
REMOVE COARSE DUST - With the SchmutzLiese, the roughened dust and loose dirt is brushed out of the coat in long strokes. The SchmutzLiese is repeatedly wiped on the curry comb for cleaning. The dust-filled currycomb is regularly beaten out on the floor.
LEGS - The SchmutzLiese with its hard inner bristles and soft outer bristle ring is also ideally suited for cleaning the legs.
DUST REMOVAL & SHINE - The GlanzElse gets the last dust out of the coat and conjures up a perfect shine. (Body & Head)
HEAD - Depending on the horse's preferences, the head can be gently brushed with the GlanzElse or the brush side of the KämmLotte, or it can be massaged and roughened a bit with the SchmutzLiese, the SchrubberPaul or the wooden pins of the KämmLotte, especially during coat changes our horses love a proper head massage.
EYES & CO. - Eyes, nostrils and anus are each cleaned with their own sponge.
MANE - The mane is regularly brushed with the KämmLotte and sprayed with StarFinish.
TAIL - When combing the tail, care should be taken to start from the bottom up until you reach the rump of the tail so that as little long hair as possible is lost, if you turn the tail in at the same time you are on the safe side. Before combing, if necessary, spray with StarFinish to make the tail easier to comb. With our KämmLotte almost no hair is torn from the tail. If you have a lot of time you can also comb the tail.
DUST TRICK - If it's really dusty: Finally, the horse can be wiped with a (optionally damp) cloth or a lambskin grooming glove. In this way, the very last remnants of dust are optimally removed.
HOOF CARE - The hooves are washed with the SchrubberPaul from the outside and then oiled with a suitable hoof care product such as Natural Hoof Oil.
WASHING - In warm weather, horses are washed down after work to remove dirt and sweat. Carefully start on the hind legs from the bottom up so as not to strain the circulation (especially in hot temperatures or after heavy exertion). Important: Pull excess water out of the coat with a sweat knife. Most horses love to roll around extensively afterwards ?.
